MASTERING / PREPARING THE OUTPUT

The Mastering Engineer will not only alter the sound of each song in a final attempt to improve it but also format the entire finished digital, vinyl or tape production master copy.

Typical sound changes will include Compression or EQ to change sound, and usually Limiting to try to reduce transients and crank the overall level of the material as loud as possible.

Mastering Engineers will place all songs in their proper order and determine the amount of space in between each song, often trying to utilize any music expression in the timing of the spaces. 

Finally for Digital productions to Compact Disc special information will be encoded into the product that will include song and production information.
