MIXING MIXING TOOLS MIXING TOOLS / PROCESSING AND AUTOMATION It seems obvious that EQ, compression (etc) are mixing tools. Equally (or arguably more) important tools include the volume fader, mute switch, pan knob and even sends, all of which can be AUTOMATED so that changes can be remembered, played back, and even edited. In addition, although it may be said that reverbs are mix tools, it is more accurate to say that the individual reverb SPACES are the actual mix tools. When mixing, we manipulate the components of a large audio image. If the components are NOT changing, the mix can be more easily made, but will lack important expressive elements possible only through dynamics. |
